Ron Gilbert Leaves Double Fine

Ron Gilbert, the man behind The Secret of Monkey Island and most recently The Cave, has left Double Fine to pursue his career in video games elsewhere.

Gilbert has said; “I want to thank all the amazing people at Double Fine for all their hard work on The Cave. It was a true pleasure to work with every one of them over the past two years. So much fun. I will miss them all. And of course to Tim for creating the opportunity to come there and make The Cave.”

We wish Ron all the best in his future endevours.

Huge SEGA Sale on XBLA Including NiGHTS, Virtua Fighter UPDATED

The sale appears to be North American only. Checks on the UK XBLA show the original prices are still live on this side of the pond.

SEGA is having a sale on the Xbox Live Marketplace which affects 5 of their digital-only titles. Check below for the full list of reductions:

NiGHTS into Dreams… – was 800 MSP now 400 MSP
Sonic the Fighters – was 400 MSP now 160 MSP
Fighter Vipers – was 400 MSP now 160 MSP
Virtua Fighter 2 – was 400 MSP now 160 MSP
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown – was 1200 MSP now 400 MSP

While it’s not made apparent on the SEGA Blog, this appears to be a worldwide sale and not just North American only. More on this as we get it.

Brazilian Ratings Board Reveals Castle of Illusion Maybe Heading to PS3/360/Vita/Wii-U

NeoGAF user CrunchinJelly has spotted a listing by the Brazilian ratings board that lists Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse as an upcoming title for PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita and Wii-U. We assume this title will be re-released digitally.

Castle of Illusion was originally released for Mega Drive in 1990 and is highly regarded as one of the best Mickey games ever made.

No release date is set at this time. More on this as we get it.

Arkedo Studio Officially Disbanded

Arkedo Studio, the team responsible for Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit have sadly shut their doors.

Bizarrely, the studio didn’t go bankrupt or into administration. Arkedo weren’t able to secure a project after finishing Hell Yeah! and decided to disband while they had money and were able to get “good conditions” for all their staff elsewhere.

Arkedo have also announced that they have 2 other unannounced games which are complete. These games will be the last from the studio and should be released “soon”.

Hell Yeah! Spinoff Game Coming to iOS Tonight

SEGA’s PC/PSN/XBLA title Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit is getting a spin-off title called Hell Yeah! Pocket Inferno. The game is an iOS running game like Canabalt and features a total of 50 stages. The game launches sometime tonight.

SEGA Model 2 Collection Titles Virtua Strike and Virtual-On Stay Japan Exclusive

SEGA have revealed that the re-releases of Cyber Troopers Virtual-On and Virtua Striker will not be making their way West and are restricted to the Japanese PSN and XBLA services. This is disappointing news as the other 3 titles in the collection (Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers) were released in the West.

The 2 games are due to launch in Japan on February 13th 2013.

Release Date for The Cave Revealed

The Cave, the new digtal adventure game from Ron Gilbert of Monkey Island fame, will launch on XBLA, Steam and PSN on January 23rd. We only have US pricing for PSN and Steam which will be $14.99. The XBLA version will cost 1200MSP.
