Vanquish, the third-person shooter from Platinum Games is now available in demo-form from the X-Box Marketplace and Playstation Network. Unlike Platinum Games previous title Bayonetta, Vanquish’s lead platform is the PS3 which means both versions of the game are near identical (unlike Bayonetta which had considerably lower performance on PS3). Take a look at this rather tasty video Eurogamer.net’s Digital Foundry did showing each version’s performance and then get to downloading!
Vanquish is due for release later this year. Play.com has the UK release down for the 22nd of October. Fingers crossed!

NG:Dev Team have ported their Neo Geo shooter, Fast Striker to the Dreamcast and are planning a Winter 2010 release. The game is available to pre-order from their shop now in 3 versions; a regular version, a special edition with a bonus soundtrack CD and a bundle of both versions for those of you who want both for collectors’ purposes (or just have far too much disposable income!).
See below for the game’s trailer and make your decision as to whether you want another shmup for your Dreamcast. Personally, I can never have enough shmups!

It appears that the X-Box Live Arcade version of Sonic Adventure will be making it’s way to the US on September 15th for the low, low price of 800 Microsoft points. I think the price alone has changed this re-release from curiosity to must-buy. If you have yet to experience Sonic’s first Dreamcast outing then there is no excuse now!
No news on the Playstation Network release or any UK release dates are currently available. We will be sure to post them as soon as we know!

That’s right folks, SEGADriven.com is back and ready to rock!
The site is now hosted with The Sonic Stadium Network which means we’re now a part of a lovely group of sites run by people I can honestly call my friends.
Along with the move to the TSS Network, the entire website has been converted to WordPress to make updates easier ongoing. If you notice any broken links/images/errors etc please report to me as they shouldn’t be there! I’m hoping I’ve picked up on everything but you know how these things are… I’m only human!
So there you have it; we’re back and things are working better than ever. Stay tuned for a review of Gunblade NY & LA Machineguns Arcade Hits Pack (what a mouthful!) coming very, very soon!

I’ve added some additional information on Spencer Nilsen in the Musicians section.
Spencer’s website conveniently forgets he composed the soundtrack for Ecco: The Tides of Time. I haven’t heard it myself but if Spencer can’t remember he created it doesn’t fill me with much hope that it is any good! It’s also available on the CD ‘Ecco: Songs of Time’ which I provided a track list for.
The Sonic CD soundtrack is also available on CD as Sonic the Hedgehog Boom along with some arranged versions of tracks from Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball. Details on this have been added as well.

Just in case you’ve never noticed it, Roareye Black opened a ‘Musicians’ section on the site with the goal to provide detailed information for all musicians that have worked with SEGA.
However, he didn’t announce it and it’s been sitting there for a while with 2 sections open; 1 for Crush 40 and another for Hideki Naganuma.
I’ve just added another 2 musicians to the section. There is now detailed information regarding Spencer Nilsen (famous for the North American Sonic CD soundtrack) and The Offspring (famous for Crazy Taxi 1 and 2).

Now this is cool! We often see interviews with Yuji Naka with respected gaming press, but a Nights fansite? Mr Naka just went from ‘awesome’ to ‘legend’ in our book.
Here’s some choice cuts from the interview:
Nidcom: Is there meaning behind the lower case ‘i’ in the name NiGHTS? Some fans speculate that it may stand for ‘imagination’ or ‘Id’ from Freudian research. Yuji Naka: The “i” in the logo, was imagined from the gem on NiGHTS’ chest. At first, the logo design was created to distinguish the word NiGHTS from Nights. NiGHTS was then used throughout the game.
Nidcom: Is it true that in the 1990′s a PC version of NiGHTS into Dreams was planned? There was a rumour that it existed at one point and one of the new levels was called ‘Sparkle Attic’? Can you tell us more about this, perhaps? Yuji Naka: I thought production was completed. Wasn’t the PC version put on the market? I actually participated in the release of the PC version of NiGHTS in Akihabara. So I thought it was on the market. But this is for sure, there is no new level. See: http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/20030321/sega.htm
Nidcom: There had been talk of a NiGHTS sequel for many years after the Saturn game. The sequel, Journey of Dreams was made however you were no longer part of Sonic Team by that point. If it were somehow possible would you ever consider making another NiGHTS game, if you were asked to? Yuji Naka: I have been asked hundreds of times to make the sequel of NiGHTS, but have no desire to create one. As I feel the same way that my beloved Mr. Steven Spielberg would never make a sequel to ET because it was his first work and such a fantastic film. I feel the same way about NiGHTS. Oh, the first person to play NiGHTS, other than the SEGA team, was Mr. Spielberg. During the development of the NiGHTS game, he visited SEGA and we asked him to play with an experimental version of the new controller. Since then we called it the Spielberg controller.

When it comes to winning website awards, I’ve always been an outsider. But I’ve always appreciated the support I get as it shows that someone out there regards my site as their favourite site. This is why I still continue to enter wesbite awards competitions because as the saying goes, “you’ve got to be in it to win it”.
So if you think SEGADriven is worthy of “Best Layout”, “Greatest Improvement”, “Best Media Source” or “The Shadow All-Star Award” then lend us your support by clicking on the banner above and giving us a vote!

Sure, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is… erm… nice… and all, but I bet you all want a real reason to get into the winter sports mood don’t you, SEGAHeads? Well worry no more, because Sega Japan have announced Storm-G, an arcade sit-in bobsled racer that has you reaching speeds of 185mph. That’s right. A bobsled. You get to race in a bobsled. At 185 miles per hour. How sweet is this!
The cabinet, shown above, will house eight bobsleds, with each pod able to seat two players. Twin joysticks are used to play the game whilst inside, which you can use to increase your speed and rotate your sled 360 degrees.
Look at that screenshot above. Now that’s Sega, that is. The game will be installed at Sega’s Joypolis Amusement Park in Tokyo around March 2009. We’ll be heading to Japan in April, and you can bet your bottom dollar we’ll be heading down to play it. If you fancy a go on it when it opens, the ride will cost ¥600 (£4.50) for a ten minute race of snowy awesomeness.
All this news makes me want to go and watch Cool Runnings now. Jamaica, we have a bobsled team!
