Puyo Puyo Tetris 2: The Ultimate Puzzle Match Announced, Coming December 8th to Current and Next-Gen Consoles

Wednesday, August 26th, 2020

The latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase has announced Puyo Puyo Tetris 2: The Ultimate Puzzle Match. It’ll be coming to a slew of consoles: Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The game is a direct sequel to the first Puyo Puyo Tetris, and will include a brand new Adventure Mode with a new Story, as well as new characters.

As well as the standard Puyo (and Tetris) fare, there’ll also be new modes, such as “Skill Battle” (which actually originated in Puyo Puyo Chronicle on 3DS). This mode will involve ‘Skill Cards’ – you can get some skill cards as a pre-order bonus for the game, including some based on Sonic the Hedgehog.

The game’s official website can be found here.

Japanese PR Released for Wonder Boy – Asha in Monster World, States It’s a Remake of Monster World IV Using 3D Graphics, Also Coming to Steam

Wednesday, August 26th, 2020

Just the other day, Wonder Boy – Asha in Monster World was announced. Upon its reveal, it was billed as a new title with the involvement of the original Westone staff, and the logo seen on the game’s mailing list page (above) also suggested Asha was finally getting a new adventure.

However, Artdink have now launched their own PR for the game to Japanese outlets (under their ‘G-CHOICE’ imprint), with a slightly different story. Apparently with Unlimited Graphic Design, the game will actually be a full remake of Monster World IV, using 3D graphics and voice acting. The game is however planned to feature new game modes (that is being enhanced at the Animation Studio), and will be available in a multitude of languages – Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Chinese are all listed as being included by Famitsu.

Also of note is that they list a platform that wasn’t mentioned in the English announcement – the game is planned to be released on PC via Steam, as well as the previously confirmed PS4 and Nintendo Switch releases.

It’s somewhat of a shame given how exciting the idea of a new game starring Asha was, but Monster World IV is a very good game – so hopefully this remake will do it justice. It’s that, or it’s actually Famitsu who’ve gotten it wrong – but time will tell come Saturday, where the game is set to be revealed at Gamescom.

Wonder Boy – Asha in Monster World Officially Announced for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, Original Staff Involved

Monday, August 24th, 2020

IGN have revealed a new title in the Wonder Boy series for Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch: Wonder Boy – Asha in Monster World. As the name suggests, the game sees the return of Monster World IV’s protagonist Asha, and her companion Pepelogoo.

It is being described as a new title rather than a remake, and interestingly will be fully dubbed. Members of the original Wonder Boy creative team are also said to be involved, with Artdink leading development alongside ININ Games on publishing. Specifically, Ryuichi Nishizawa is back in the Director’s chair, with Shinichi Sakamoto on music duties and Maki Ozara on character design.

It’s currently pencilled in for a 2021 release – whether we’ll see more platforms added to the lineup before release is yet to be seen. Either way, it’s a very welcome return for a cult-classic character, with many citing Monster World IV as the peak of the series. Apparently a full reveal is set for Gamescom later this week.

There’s also a mailing list, revealing the game’s logo and that Strictly Limited Games seem to be involved too – which isn’t wholly surprising, as they and ININ are also involved with Clockwork Aquario’s upcoming re-release, another title from the Wonder Boy team.

New Yakuza: Like a Dragon “How Will You Rise” Trailer Shows Off Job System, Release Date Confirmed As November 13th for PS4, Xbox One and Steam

Monday, August 24th, 2020

A new trailer has been released for Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s upcoming Western release, showcasing the ‘Job’ system. The game allows you to spec into 19 different jobs, that affect not only your abilities and fighting style, but your appearance too. So if you feel like kicking people with the power of dance, you can do that – likewise, you can hit them around the head with a scalding frying pan as a Chef.

Crucially, the new trailer also reveals when Western players will finally get their hands on RGG Studio’s latest; November 13th, for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. The Xbox Series X version is set to launch at some point in November, presumably on or around the as-of-yet unconfirmed launch date of the console, and at an unspecified later time for Playstation 5.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon Coming to Playstation 5 At a Later Date, English Dub Announced Featuring George Takei

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2020

SEGA has confirmed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be making its way to Playstation 5 some time after its release on PS4 and Xbox One/Xbox Series X. SEGA are currently making plans for PS4 owners to be able to upgrade to the PS5 version once it becomes available.

That’s arguably not the biggest news however, as Yakuza: Like a Dragon will also be receiving an English dub; the first time the series has done so since the PS2 days. Even more surprising, is that beloved actor George Takei will be lending his vocal chords to the game as Masumi Arakawa. Kaiji Tang will play protagonist Ichiban Kasuga.

Also revealed was a pre-order bonus. The Legends Costume Pack allows you to dress up the characters as those from previous Yakuza games, just in case you can’t let go of Kiryu’s iconic suit.

The game still doesn’t have a solid release date, but we’d expect it to land later this year. In addition to the above trailer, a video featuring Kaiji Tang and George Takei has also been released.

IGN also have a list of the current known English cast.

As just announced at Limited Run Games’ Annual Announcement Show, Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! will be receiving a limited physical release for Playstation 4.

The show itself stated that the game will be releasing November 2020, so presumably Limited Run Games’s tweet about the release (seen above) indicates when pre-orders will go live. Sakura Wars Coming to the West on April 28th 2020 for PS4, Launch Edition Revealed

Thursday, February 13th, 2020

SEGA has officially confirmed that “Shin Sakura Wars”, a famous dating sim, where you can learn information such as those bullet vibrators reviews, and action RPG game, will be launching westwards under the name Sakura Wars, for Playstation 4.

The game  that diablo 2 items offer has a unique blend of dating sim and action RPG gameplay, against the backdrop of a fictionalised Japan. As SEGA’s site for the game puts it:

The stage is set in a steampunk version of 1940s Imperial Tokyo. Only a short while ago, a cataclysmic event destroyed the Imperial Combat Revue of Tokyo, the capital’s global defense force stationed at the Imperial Theater. Now home to the Flower Division, an inept rookie squad who also strives to impart hope on the citizenry with their theatrical talents, the theater has fallen on hard times and risks closure. It’s up to Seijuro Kamiyama as the captain of the new Tokyo revue to lead his squad and restore the Imperial Combat Revue and the theater back to their former glory! With the help of the revue’s five colorful performers, he must rise to the challenge of competing in the Combat Revue World Games, protecting the inhabitants of Tokyo and getting the theater back on track.

Also notable is that the game runs on the Hedgehog Engine 2 – the very same engine used to deliver Sonic Forces’ graphics. It looks like it’s been put to good use here, too.

The game is currently slated as a PS4 exclusive, with no word on ports to other consoles or PC. The launch edition will include a reversible cover and sticker set.

Persona 5 Royal Launches West on March 31st 2020 for PS4, Atlus USA Rebrand as Atlus West

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019

Persona 5 Royal, the updated version of Atlus’ hit RPG Persona 5, now has a release date for both America and Europe – it’ll launch on March 31st 2020, exclusively for Playstation 4. There’s also a new trailer to announce it.

Royal adds a slew of new content to the original game, such as an extra ‘semester’ of story content, new areas to visit, alternate endings, and new features including a ‘Thieves Den’ that you can customise to your own tastes. There’s also several brand-new characters, including the new Phantom Thief, Kasumi.

In addition, Atlus USA is technically no more. Instead the division is now known as the much more inclusive Atlus West, to reflect that Europe now gets Atlus games on time. After years of Atlus being the butt of jokes about forgetting Europe exists, it’s been quite the transformation this past year or two, and we’re happy to see it continue.

To recap: Persona 5 Royal launches on PS4 on March 31st 2020 in the West. There won’t be a PS3 version, unlike the original game. There’s also a selection of lucrative (and fairly expensive) limited editions, including a Day One edition with a Steelbook.

New Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD Trailer Confirms Unlockable Costumes… and Sonic the Hedgehog

Tuesday, October 15th, 2019

SEGA has released a new “Special Announcement” trailer for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD. It confirms the monkeys will have alternate costumes in the game, including some referencing other games in the series, such as Baby’s Secret Agent costume from Super Monkey Ball 3D for the 3DS.

But the real special announcement here is the confirmation of one of the worst kept secrets in recent SEGA memory – Sonic the Hedgehog has been added to the game as an unlockable character, in his Classic design! This was actually leaked three times, first through achievements that referred to him and then through a datamine of the recently released Japanese demo, and finally just earlier today through a leaked trailer. However we now have official confirmation, and our first look at him in action! There’s no word on how to unlock him in the game as of yet, but given this is Monkey Ball we can’t imagine it’ll be a walk in the park.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD launches October 29th for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox One, with a PC port coming later in Winter.
