Citizens of Space Announced, Launching June 18th 2019 on Consoles and PC

Thursday, June 6th, 2019

SEGA has announced a surprise follow up to 2015’s Citizens of Earth, Citizens of Space.

The original game has been described as a ‘giant parody of Earthbound’. As the trailer puts it:

The follow-up to 2015’s constituent-pleasing Citizens of Earth features an all-new combat system, deeper recruitment mechanics, and plenty of unique worlds to explore!

The game launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on June 18th 2019. The original game was published by Atlus, and as such the game’s official site (which doesn’t appear to be live yet) is under the Atlus banner.

Team Sonic Racing Delayed, Now Releasing May 21st 2019

Thursday, October 25th, 2018

After much speculation given SEGA’s peculiar lack of marketing for the game, it’s now been officially confirmed that Team Sonic Racing won’t be releasing “this winter” after all – it’s now due for a much, much later release on May 21st, 2019.

SEGA has said that the delay is to ensure “the best experience possible”. Given response to game so far has been somewhat tepid, this is perhaps a welcome move – but it’s also a surprisingly hefty delay over the originally expected Winter 2018 release. Perhaps this is Haruki Satomi’s ‘quality-first’ initiative kicking into high gear?

Team Sonic Racing will launch in May on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Playstation 4.

An aforementioned limited edition, the “Endless Night Collection” has also been confirmed, which includes both games and the previously Vita-Exclusive Persona 4 Dancing title, now in HD as a digital download.

Trailers for both games are available below:

Valkyria Chronicles 4 “Memoirs From Battle” Premium Edition Revealed, New Trailer

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Valkyria Chronicles 4, showing off the squad you’ll be battling with in the game (including a medic dog!). In addition, SEGA has also revealed a rather nice “Memoirs From Battle” premium edition will be releasing in Europe and America, featuring a whopping 100-page artbook based on and a model of the game’s Hafen tank. It’ll also include two bonus missions, featuring Squad 7 of the original Valkyria Chronicles.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is due out in Autumn 2018, with no firm release date in place as of yet.

Shining Resonance Refrain coming West for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC

Wednesday, February 21st, 2018

Shining? Is… is that really you?

Marking the end of the series’ over 10-year absence from Western shores, SEGA has announced Shining Resonance Refrain, a remaster of the PS3 title Shining Resonance. The remaster includes all previously released DLC, as well as a new ‘Refrain Mode’ that adds brand-new content. For those wondering, Shining had a bit of an image overhaul after Camelot broke ties with SEGA – so if you’re expecting something along the lines of the classic Mega Drive Shining series, this might not be what you’re after.

One slightly odd thing to note – while SEGA hasn’t localised any entries in the series for over 10 years, the fighting game spin off Blade Arcus from Shining: Battle Arena was localised, by Studio Saisenzen, and is available on Steam.

The game will also be getting a launch edition with a reversible metal slipcase – this will also be available in Europe, which is always nice to see. SEGA has also confirmed that the game will receive an English dub, with the option to use Japanese audio also being available.

There’s also a trailer, available below:

Key SEGA Staff Comment on the PS4

Monday, March 25th, 2013

Some key members of SEGA’s staff have shared their thoughts regarding Sony’s Playstation 4 announcement and the opportunities the new technology can offer them. Check out the comments below:

SEGA Chief Communications Officer, Toshihiro Nagoshi

— “I genuinely felt that the specs, namely the high image quality, that enable the development of high quality products, are amazing. I’ve been in this field for 23 years, and back in the past, the current specs would have been considered a fantasy. But at the same time, there are a lot of hurdles that need to be overcome to expand that fantasy to its limit, so there is a certain tenseness that keeps me from simply being overjoyed. I’m also aware that users want to see that fantasy taken to the limit.”

— “I’m looking forward to the functions and services that stimulate the ‘user community’ and share game enjoyment. The ‘online’ component of games has been a standard for a while now, but I’m looking forward to services that utilize that component to dynamically cultivate user connectivity.”

— “To sum it up in a single phrase, it’d be ‘a great emotional experience shared by many people.’ It used to be the norm in all areas that the bigger the numbers, the worse it looks, and the better it looks, the smaller the numbers—the question now will be how to escape that dilemma? I’m going to give it my best.”

SEGA Section Manager, Masayoshi Yokoyama

— “Personally, I was expecting a Sony group home appliance substation sort of expansion, so it felt like an evolution of ‘gaming hardware’ in a good way. There are a lot of features that tickle my creative fancy as a game developer, so I’m quite excited.”

— “My primary interest is the controller. I believe the controller is a user’s biggest direct interface with [a console’s] ‘quality.’ With previous game consoles that were released, after a time, what you tend to think of is the tactile sensation of the controller in your hands and the feeling of gameplay. That feeling is stored in your brain along with the memories of fun games. The new controller has the most appealing form and specs I’ve seen since the original PlayStation, so I’m very excited about it.”

— “Looking at the new functions, I believe we’ve truly entered the new age of ‘bi-directional media.’ In Japan, TV and other ‘passive’ media are still the majority, but with the emergence of the PS4, I think the possibility of new genres like a change from ‘viewed’ to ‘movable’ TV would be interesting. I’m thinking of such possibilities.”
