Up and until now, SEGA’s 3D re-releases of classic SEGA titles for the 3DS eShop have been exclusive to Japan, but by the looks of things two of these titles look to be coming West. The Australian Classification Board has entries for both 3D Sonic the Hedgehog and 3D Altered Beast. While Australia obviously isn’t the West, games that are generally released in this region get a release in the West as well. News has broken that SEGA will re-release Sonic the Hedgehog on the 3DS eShop with added 3D support to show depth in the backgrounds. This news follows the release of 3D Space Harrier and 3D Super Hang-On, all of which are still Japan exclusive. The re-release will launch on May 15th to mark the 25th anniversary of the Mega Drive in Japan and it will be priced 600 yen. Additional features include the already mentioned 3D effect, all the bug fixes and added details from the later revisions of Sonic 1 (rippling water, scrolling clouds), the addition of the spin attack, a classic view mode which simulates a CRT monitor and an option to choose a Mega Drive model 1 or 2 sound balance. This re-release is unrelated to Christian Whitehead and Stealth’s port of Sonic the Hedgehog which runs using Whitehead’s custom Retro Engine and supports a widescreen display. Being a Japanese 3DS owner must be a wonderful thing because all these fantastic arcade classics keep getting re-released for your machine in shiny 3D! Super Hang-On is making its’ way onto the Japanese 3DS eShop next week for ¥600 (roughly £4). You can even control the bike using the 3DS’ gyro-controls. Game Gear RPG classic Crystal Warriors has been re-rated by the Australian Classification Board which means the game could well be due for a digital re-release. Underrated action-platformer Tails Adventure has been rated by the Australian classification board for re-release on 3DS. Tails Adventure was originally released on the Game Gear in 1995 and is a slower-paced adventure that is reminiscent of early Castlevania games. There is hope Westerners! The Australian Classification Board has revealed a listing for 3D Space Harrier; the Space Harrier remake for the 3DS eShop. The applicant for the classification is none other than SEGA Europe so it would seem that the previously Japanese exclusive game is now coming West. More Game Gear classics appear to be on their way to the 3DS eShop! Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will become available for Japanese 3DS owners on the 31st of October for 300 yen.
