Fresh off the back of the recent artwork leak and ratings from South Korea, SEGA have officially dropped the first trailer for Sonic Origins and revealed a whole host of information for the upcoming retro Sonic compilation.
Sonic Origins will feature the Taxman versions of Sonic 1, CD and 2 alongside a brand new port of Sonic 3 & Knuckles developed by Headcannon who previously assisted with the Taxman ports as well as Sonic Mania. The games can be played in their remastered anniversary editions in full widescreen, or in their classic 4:3 aspect ratio versions. The game will also feature a mission mode which tasks players with completing new custom stages that earn them tokens to be spent on in-game unlockables in the game’s virtual museum.
The games will also be available to play as one big title that combines all four titles. The games will also feature new animated opening and ending sequences from SEGA in collaboration with Powerhouse Animation.
Sadly the game is currently a digital only release. What’s more confusing is the 5 different editions the game is being sold in; each with their own exclusive content like a mirror mode, hard missions, additional character animations and additional music tracks. Thankfully there is only a £4 difference between the base game and the ‘digital deluxe edition’, with the base game priced at £32.99 and the digital deluxe edition priced at £36.98.
Sonic Origins will release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch on June 23rd 2022.
While not directly related to SEGA, our readers will be pleased to hear that during the most recent State of Play event from Sony, Konami have revealed a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles retro compilation that includes the 2 Mega Drive entries in the series. Both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist and the Mega Drive version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters will be getting re-released via the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection from Konami. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection will also include every single 8 and 16 bit TMNT game that featured on the NES, Game Boy, Mega Drive, SNES and arcade for a total of 13 games. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection will release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC via Steam at some point in 2022.
A new expansion for Lost Judgment called The Kaito Files will release on March 28th 2022 across PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
This new expansion features new story-based content and will be free to owners of Lost Judgment Ultimate Edition and the Lost Judgment season pass. The expansion will also be sold separately for players who don’t have the Ultimate Edition or a season pass.
There is currently no gameplay footage for The Kaito Files expansion at the time of writing. We also don’t know the price of the expansion for those without the Ultimate Edition or a season pass. The official Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Twitter account promises more information is coming soon.
It’s been a long old time since we last heard about Two Point Campus. Originally announced back in June 2021, this sequel to Two Point Hospital moves the action from healthcare to higher education and puts you in the hot seat as the designer of your very own university. Two Point Campus is releasing on a huge array of systems on May 17th 2022. The game will launch on PC via Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The game is being developed by Two Point (who could have guessed!?).
Teased back in May, the next mainline Sonic the Hedgehog game from Sonic Team has been formally unveiled as Sonic Frontiers. Sonic Frontiers will be the first open world entry in the franchise and it’s launching “Holiday 2022”. Check out the first in game trailer below:
Morio Kishimoto returns as director for Sonic Frontiers. Kishimoto previously directed Sonic Forces, Sonic Lost World, Sonic Colours and the Sonic Storybook games. Sonic Frontiers will release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
A handful of SEGA Xbox and 360 games have been added to the Xbox Series X|S backwards compatibility list. The main highlight comes in the form of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s 3rd person shooter Binary Domain which also gets a 60 FPS boost with its arrival. See below for the full list of SEGA/Atlus additions:

An additional handful of Sonic games that were already backwards compatible have also received a 60 FPS boost. The most interesting of these is Sonic Unleashed which has only ever been playable in 30 FPS. The full list of FPS boosted titles now follows:

All of these updates are available to Xbox Series X|S owners now. Series S owners will need to own the games digitally in order to play them.
A surprise re-release of Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer is heading to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S next week. This digital re-release of the Mega Drive shoot-em-up classic arrives on October 15th 2021 and is available in English for the first time ever in an official format.

SEGA will make an abhorrent freak (aka Suezo) from Monster Rancher available as a playable character in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania as paid for DLC. The character will cost $4.99 (or equivalent) like Hello Kitty on the same day the game launches (October 5th 2021). SEGA continue their trend of adding the absolute best bonus characters of all time to Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania with today’s reveal that Hello Kitty is coming to the game as a paid for DLC character. More bonus characters have been revealed for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania and this time we have the additions of both Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles “Tails” Prower.
