Toshihiro Nagoshi; the mastermind behind the Yakuza series has announced a new game for the Playstation 3 and X-Box 360 called Binary Domain.
The game is aimed at a global audience and takes place in Tokyo in the year 2080. The game is an online-based action title which sees players pilot robots from a third-person perspective.
There is currently no word on whether SEGA will publish the game or if it will make it to Western shores at this time. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one as it sounds a bit Virtual On-ish to me!
UPDATE ON 01/12/2010 SEGA of Europe and SEGA of America have confirmed they will be bringing Binary Domain to the West. There’s even a trailer featuring racial stereotypes:

Sonic Mayhem is an 8 bit, Game Gear-styled Sonic fan-game that’s been in development for quite some time now. I’m a massive fan of Sonic’s Game Gear outings as they really pushed the hardware to its’ limits and created an authentic Sonic experience for those who weren’t ready for 16 bit yet.
Amesuki; the game’s developer, has revealed a new trailer for a stage called Starlight Park which is completely inspired by Sonic Colours’s Starlight Carnival. Amesuki is hoping to include an 8 bit version of the stage’s theme in the final release. Check out the new footage below:

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 is the 2nd best selling game on the X-Box Live Arcade for October. The 1200 MS points-priced game sold 98,000 copies just behind Dead Rising 2: Case Zero at 104,000 priced at 400 points. However, this does mean that Sonic 4 was the most profitable XBLA game for October. Well done SEGA! It’s a much deserved win for you!

SEGA Touring Car Championship is a bloody difficult game. You can’t make any mistakes. It’s one of two things I’ll always remember about this game. The other is it’s amazing dance soundtrack. The game’s final course is backed by the song ‘So High’ by the artist Channel X and it’s pure 90s floorfiller action. Get your glowsticks out, this is one pumping tune:

I’m on a pretty big SEGA Saturn buzz at the moment so anything related to SEGA’s 32 bit wonder has been of instant appeal to me. However, this little discovery is very cool regardless of my rose-tinted glasses.
Theodore Taylor III has developed an hour long mix of tunes from various Saturn games and put it online for free download. It’s a great little project that is mixed incredibly well and makes for an awesome bit of listening. Tracks from Virtua Figher 2, Fighting Vipers, Sonic 3D Blast, Burning Rangers and Daytona USA all make the cut.

The game allows you to fight other dragons as well as “nurture and learn to communicate” with the dragon you ride. Sounds remarkably familiar doesn’t it?
No release window or even a publisher have been announced at this time so SEGA might not even be involved. Keep your eyes on this one!

SEGAbits have spotted a rather interesting product listing at Gamestop.
A ‘Dreamcast Collection’ for the X-Box 360 has appeared with a retail price of $29.99. The product is currently listed with a release date of February 15th, 2011.
If this is a legit collection it seems like an odd thing to do as SEGA have been attempting to increase their digital market with the release of several Dreamcast games for X-Box Live Arcade and Playstation Network.
Will this collection simply contain Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5 Part 2 and SEGA Bass Fishing? We’ll be keeping an eye on this one as it’s certainly an oddity.

Here’s an interesting couple of videos. Below you see gameplay footage from a much earlier build of Bayonetta. Bayonetta herself has a different outfit, the HUD is completely different, there are some completely unseen areas that aren’t in the final build and you can even activate Witch Time manually instead of having to dodge enemies at the last available moment. I’m also getting great amusement from the fact that Bayonetta runs like she’s soiled herself.

Cyber Troopers Virtual-On is a game where you pilot mechs and duel with other mechs TO THE DEATH. This concept has been used hundreds of times in many, many games but SEGA were onto something incredible with their duel-stick controlled series.
