Crazy Taxi: World Tour Revealed at Xbox Showcase, Coming in 2027 – UPDATE: Generative AI Used in Development

Sunday, June 7th, 2026

After first being teased back in December 2023, SEGA have finally showcased the next Crazy Taxi title at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase. Now called Crazy Taxi: World Tour, this new entry in the series puts you in control Axel as he travels around the world in tracking down a nefarious thief who has stolen his beloved taxi. Check out the reveal trailer below:

In more disappointing news, the Steam store page for the game confirms that generative AI was used in the development of the game:

At SEGA Corporation, we utilize generative AI as a support tool for developers, aiming to provide better content to our users and enable developers to focus more on creative tasks.

We have used such generative AI support tools during development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS5 and Switch 2 at some point in 2027. Please do not support developments that use generative AI as the use of AI is damaging to the environment, AI models steal artwork from living human beings, and it also puts real artists out of work.

Everyone Hates This – SEGA Announce Sonic Collab With NFT/Crypto/AI Company LOM BABY

Thursday, May 21st, 2026

SEGA Japan are officially teasing a Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration with LOM BABY – a company that basically exists to grift NFTs, cryptocurrency and generative AI slop.

While there is no official word on what this collaboration will entail, the fact that SEGA are happy to associate their franchise all about fighting back against an evil dictator who is looking to pollute the enivornment with a company that thrives on producing “transmedia” based around cryptocurrency, NFTs and AI generated imagery seems misjudged on a massive scale.

Regardless of what becomes of this collaboration, I think SEGA need to try harder to work with companies that don’t work in speculative markets like crypto and NFTs, or generative AI which is proving to be massively damaging to the environment. It’s also a technology that steals the work of human creatives and regurgitates it into something soulless and wasteful.

I know that SEGADriven is a fan site and we normally don’t highlight subjects we aren’t passionate about, but to ignore collaborations like this and not call it out is to betray the thing we love. If you can’t criticse something you love then it will never improve, and this is a prime example of that. SEGADriven will not support this endeavour and we urge SEGA to withdraw their involvement with LOM BABY urgently.

SEGA Disappointingly Admits it Will Use Generative AI in ‘Appropriate Use Cases’ in Future Game Development

Thursday, December 4th, 2025

During a recent Q&A session, SEGA executives have admitted that they will use AI to assist game development but only in ‘appropriate use cases’.

SEGA execs have said, “rather than fully following the trend toward the large-scale development, we will also pursue efficiency improvements, such as leveraging AI. However, as AI adoption can face strong resistance in creative areas such as character creation, we will proceed by carefully assessing appropriate use cases, such as streamlining development processes.”

This is incredibly disappointing news as the use of generative AI is essentially admitting to art theft. Generative AI models are trained on existing artwork created by human beings and as a result it is an extremely abusive method of repurposing the work of others. AI is also harmful to the environment as it requires enormous amounts of electricity and water to cool the systems.

SEGADriven supports all human craft that goes into creative endeavours and firmly objects to the use of AI in creative spaces. Steam currently makes developers declare whether their games have made use of AI in its development which allows consumers to make informed purchasing decisions. Epic Games’s CEO Tim Sweeney has argued that developers should not need to disclose their use of AI as Steam’s system encourages “cancel campaigns” and “review bombing”. This is true, but it also disregards the fact that generative AI models are built on the theft of artwork from human artists. Real people make games; not machines. It is insulting that CEOs continue to lay off development staff in favour of using environmentally destructive methods that put talented people out of work and destroy their livelihoods. This all happens while generative AI models filter all human creative endeavours through an ugly, soulless meat-grinder that will inevitably make all games look and sound the same. Generative AI has no use in creative spaces other than to make human art redundant, which is a gross misunderstanding of what art is.

SEGADriven will continue to highlight any use of generative AI that SEGA use in their games to allow our readers to make informed decisions about the software they purchase. This will continue until SEGA reverse their decision to use generative AI in assisting game development.
