SEGA Held a 50 Minute Virtua Fighter Conference at TGS to Show a 20 Second Character Teaser

SEGA held a conference today at the Tokyo Game Show 2025 to discuss some new details about the New Virtua Fighter Project. The 50 minute conference was largely made up of a discussion about the game’s battle rules and some new battle system mechanics, whilst also reviewing the training room gameplay that was previously showcased at EVO 2025.

At 47:32 the presenters show the only new footage of the project in the entire showcase, which comprises of a 20 second character teaser where the silhouette of an undertermined character walks down a street. As you can imagine it’s absolutely riveting viewing and well worth watching the entire presentation for. You can skip to 47:32 in the embed below to watch it:

New Virtua Fighter Project still has no set release date, target platforms or official title. RGG Studio are developing the game. Perhaps the studio has bitten off a little more than they can chew as they’re also developing Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, and Stranger Than Heaven.

Combat and Training Stage Showcased in New Virtua Fighter Project Trailer | Video Spotlight

SEGA have showcased a new look at some in-game combat as well as the training stage for their New Virtua Fighter Project at EVO 2025.

This latest teaser pits Akira and Stella against each other in a futuristic training environment. The 2 combatents trade blows, dodges seem to activate slow motion effects, and there’s also noticeable damage displayed on the characters when you land a critical hit. There’s also a striking cinematic moment when Stella lands a finishing blow.

New Virtua Fighter Project is in development at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios. No release date or target platforms have been revealed at the time of writing, but we are promised more news at the Tokyo Game Show that starts September 25th 2025.

Wolf Hawkfield Returning for New Virtua Fighter Project

SEGA have revealed a drastic new redesign and confirmation that Wolf Hawkfield will return in the New Virtua Fighter Project. Check out his teaser trailer via the embed below:

New Virtua Fighter Project is the current working title for the upcoming Virtua Fighter sequel. No target platforms or a release date have been revealed at the time of writing. The game is being developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and will feature a more story-driven experience that also includes Akira Yuki and new character Stella.

Early Concept Footage of New Virtua Fighter Project Now Available to Watch | Video Spotlight

The official Virtua Fighter YouTube channel has shared a short 35 second long clip of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s pre-development concept for the new Virtua Fighter project that was revealed at The Game Awards 2024.

This concept footage shows what RGG Studio are aiming for the final game to look and play like, but it was created before the game was greenlit for full development. This means the look and feel of the game is likely going to change as development progresses.

The footage shows 2 Akira’s in different outfits fighting in the street. The animations are extremely fluid and the camera angles change to frame specific attacks in a more dramatic way. Destructible environments are also showcased.
