I am just learning that there’s a pen-and-paper RPG based on Phantasy Star and it is officially licensed by SEGA. Phantasy Star Tabeltop Roleplaying released back in September 2025 and was developed by Skydawn Game Studios. Here’s the lowdown from the Skydawn website:
“Inspired by the popular Sega console game series, Phantasy Star Tabletop Roleplaying contains everything you need to create heroic characters and epic tales set in the Phantasy Star universe.
This RPG is packed with character options, fearsome foes, and setting tools for you and your friends to weave amazing tales of cosmic fantasy. Included is a galactic lore guide detailing the history, characters, and storylines of the iconic game series.”
I’m honestly a bit baffled as to how this one has completely passed me by until now. I’ve not seen any mention of it from SEGA’s official social channels. Very odd.
Phantasy Star Tabeltop Roleplaying is available to buy right now as a physical hardback book ($69.99) or a digital PDF download ($29.99). You can buy it direct from Skydawn’s online store by clicking here.
