Many of you may have seen the SEGA Mega Drive Twin-Pad Player from ATGames kicking around www.play-asia.com for a while. It’s a nifty piece of kit that comes with all the games featured on the portable player (see our review of the portable Mega Drive in our ‘Archive’) but adds a cartridge slot to play real Mega Drive games with. It also features a switch to allow the use of both Japanese and American NTSC games but it does not feature the ability to play PAL games.
Many reviewers have noted that the playback with real MD carts is very hit and miss with a lot of games not working at all and graphical issues with the game’s that do work.
However, we’ve just noticed that Blaze are going to release the SEGA Mega Drive Twin-Pad Player with full cartridge support for games from every region. They’ve cut the built-in games down to 15 but this is a new, licensed SEGA Mega Drive console that has no region lockout as standard. www.Play.com have the machine listed at £37.99 due for release on 24/04/2009.
Fingers crossed everyone; if this machine deals with all the compatibility issues that its’ Japanese brethren has, then we could be receiving the best Mega Drive ever released. Man, it rocks to be British 😉
