The Mega Drive Mini 2 is the follow-up mini console to the original Mega Drive Mini. This new mini console is modeled after the Mega Drive 2 and features 60 built-in games. Most of the included software is re-releases of Mega Drive games, but a selection of Mega-CD games are also included. The Mega Drive Mini 2 is being released in Japan, North America and Europe and each territory has their own software line-up and specific case mold that accurately portrays the aesthetics of the original Mega Drive 2 from each region. The only difference is the power button which is a sliding switch like the original Japanese version in all regions. The original North American and European Mega Drive 2s featured a push button for power. 2 of the included Mega-CD games on the North American and European Mega Drive Mini 2 are Night Striker and The Ninja Warriors. These games have never been made available in these territories before. The console also features some brand new software in the form of Mega Drive ports of Fantasy Zone, Spatter, Super Locomotive, Vs Puyo Puyo Sun and Star Mobile. The Mega Drive Mini 2 released worldwide on October 27th 2022 and came bundled with a USB controller based on the Mega Drive’s 6 button controller. These controllers are cross-compatible with all SEGA’s first party mini consoles.
