Othello Multivision (FG-1000)
Originally released in 1983, the Othello Multivision is an officially sanctioned clone of the SG-1000 developed by Tsukuda Original. The unit has built-in software in the form of an adaptation of the board game Othello and the built-in controls are made to specifically take advantage of this title. The keyboard allows you to specify a position on the board using numbers for the rows and letters for the columns. A selection of B5 will drop a piece in that selected space as long as there isn’t a piece already in it. The game also supports any SG-1000 ROM cartridge via its cartridge slot and traditional movement can be achieved using the built-in joystick. The system was also shipped with a keyboard overlay that better explains the function of each key on its built-in keyboard. A 2nd revision of the system (model number FG-2000) would be released the following year. The FG-2000 model would add a 9 pin controller port for additional controllers and replace the joystick with a more traditional directional pad. The keyboard keys are also blue instead of red.
