SEGA Tunes: MegaDriver Cover M.U.S.H.A. and Streets of Rage

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

Mega Drive heavy metal covers band MegaDriver have been uploading these cool little ‘Game Metal Play’ videos which feature a re-arranged version of a song featured on a specific SEGA game but actually inserted into the game. We featured the Outrun cover a little while ago but since then MegaDriver have released Streets of Rage and M.U.S.H.A. covers which sound brilliant. Check them out:

Want more? MegaDriver have also released a few new songs in the past couple of months including Golden Axe and Sonic songs. Click here to be taken to their song list on their official website.

SEGA Tunes: Road Rash 3 United Kingdom Theme Metal Remix

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

The Road Rash games are some of the greatest arcade racers to ever grace the Mega Drive. The games also try their best to create heavy metal songs for the soundtrack using the limitations of the Mega Drive sound-chip. For instance, check out the United Kingdom theme from Road Rash 3:

Now for the interesting bit. A rather talented chap known as Ivan BeSpaleva has rearranged the United Kingdom theme as an actual heavy metal song which you can hear below:

There’s also another fantastic take on this track by TailOff which you can hear below:

SEGA Tunes: DJ Yoda feat. Scroobius Pip – SEGA RIP

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

Today’s SEGA Tunes feature is a hip-hop song by DJ Yoda featuring Scroobius Pip and is entirely about the Mega Drive/SNES console war. The song makes some humorous references to Sonic “whoring himself on Mario Olympics” and SEGA fans revolting against them because of Ecco the Dolphin. The song obviously takes some historical liberties in favour of a good rhyme, but it’s still an entertaining listen.

Be warned! This song does contain bad language and references to the “SEGA Genesis” despite both artists being from the UK where the console was called the SEGA Mega Drive:

SEGA Tunes: Enduro Racer Gameplay Theme

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

Today’s SEGA Tunes feature is on the wonderful gameplay theme from SEGA’s Enduro Racer. We’re starting with the Master System version because quite simply it’s the better of the two:

For those of you that didn’t know, Enduro Racer started life as a parallax scrolling arcade racer similar to other SEGA racers like Hang-On. The difference here is that the game throws steep inclines and jumps at you to add some variety to the gameplay. The gameplay theme makes its’ first appearance here but the arcade version’s soundchip generally makes it sound a lot weaker than the Master System version:

Sadly we can’t seem to find any fan remixes of this gem, but if any of our readers would like to suggest some we will happily feature them on the next SEGA Tunes feature!
