Magical Sound Shower DLC for Taiko No Tatsujin: Drum Session Now Available in the West

Tuesday, March 5th, 2019

A while ago, we reported that OutRun’s iconic track “Magical Sound Shower” was due to be made DLC for the Japanese version of the game. The good news is that said DLC has also been released in the West as of today.

The track is available as part of the “Donder Pack Vol. 16”, or on its own from the ingame DLC menu for 79p. The track is the original version of the song from OutRun’s arcade release – also making it quite the endurance run, as it’s a pretty long song!

Namco Bandai UK’s Tweet about the release can be seen here:

Judgement Launches June 25th on PS4 in the West, Early Access for Digital Purchases Starts June 21st

Tuesday, March 5th, 2019

The latest from SEGA’s RGG Studio, Judgement (known as Judge Eyes in Japan) finally has a Western release date, along with further details on its digital and physical releases.

First of all, the game will be out June 25th, and includes dual audio. Something particularly impressive is the game has effectively been localised twice, as there’s subtitles for the English audio track and a separate translation for the original Japanese dialogue – and there are also subtitles for multiple European languages as well. In addition, the physical version will include reversible cover art, allowing you to display the original Japanese cover art of the game. Finally, it’ll also come with an RGG Studio sticker, to slap wherever you see fit.

All good then, but slightly more questionable is SEGA hopping on the recent ‘early access’ trend. Some publishers have started offering early access for those who pre-order the game, and Judgement is the latest game to do that – digital pre-orders will get access to the game a whole 4 days ahead of physical buyers. It’s a bit of an odd move, but perhaps inevitable as the latest industry trend.

Catherine: Full Body Coming West for PS4 on September 3rd, Launch and Collector’s Editions Detailed

Thursday, February 14th, 2019

The updated version of Atlus’ puzzle/dating/giant baby fighting cult classic Catherine, Catherine Full Body, is officially heading West – with some snazzy physical editions coming along with it.

The updates to the original game include improved visuals and gameplay, brand new music, an enhanced multiplayer offering, new story elements, dual audio and more. Of note, the game saw a Playstation Vita release in Japan – this version isn’t being localised, likely due to Sony effectively ending production of various Vita hardware.

Two versions of the game will be available physically at launch – a Launch Edition with a steelbook case, and the Heart’s Desire Premium Edition with a steelbook, art book, soundtrack, Collector’s Box, and an adorable little sheep plush.

Worth noting is that the original, non-enhanced version of Catherine was recently made available on Steam.

Taiko No Tatsujin: Drum Session Adding Out Run’s “Magical Sound Shower” as DLC in Japan

Thursday, December 20th, 2018

The latest PS4 iteration of Namco’s beloved drum-em-up Taiko No Tatsujin is getting a fresh dose of SEGA rhythm action, as one of the newly announced DLC packs for the game includes music from SEGA’s arcade classic Out Run.

Unsurprisingly, “Magical Sound Shower” is the track being added, considered by many as the Out Run song. It’s not made clear if it’s the original arcade arrangement, a later arrangement from the likes of Out Run 2, or even a new arrangement for the game. There’s not long to find out however, as the DLC pack it’s included in, “Don Na Pack Vol. 16”, will be released in Japan on January 24th 2019, for 500 yen. The pack also includes music from the anime High Score Girl and Darius II.

Also somewhat related to SEGA is the next DLC pack, which was released today in Japan; a collection of Hatsune Miku songs, including the smash hit Senbonzakura. This pack weighs in at a rather fitting 390 yen.

The Japanese DLC page for Taiko No Tatsujin Drum Session is available here. Currently there isn’t anything to suggest this DLC coming to the Western versions, but we’ll keep an eye out in case it does.

Judge Eyes Becomes Judgment in the West, English Voice Cast Confirmed

Saturday, December 8th, 2018

We’ve known that Yakuza spin-off Judge Eyes is coming to the West next year since the game was announced, but the game’s title was previously up for debate as it was using the temporary title of ‘Project Judge’ in previous promotional material. Well now the game has an official title and that title is ‘Judgment’.

Judgment will also feature an English voice cast for the first time in a Yakuza game since the original Yakuza back in 2006. It has also been confirmed that even though there is English voice work, the game will also ship with dual English/Japanese voice work. The subtitles are also different for the English script and the Japanese script with the subtitles for the Japanese script being more faithful to the original.

You can check out a brand new trailer below to hear the English voice work for yourself:

Judgment will launch exclusively for PS4 in Summer 2009. The game is being developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.

Three Classic Virtual On Titles are coming to Playstation 4, as TANITA launch crowdfunding for PS4 Twin Stick Controller

Thursday, October 18th, 2018

Surprise! Hardware company TANITA have announced a crowdfunding drive to produce Virtual On twin stick controllers for PS4.

Actually, this isn’t much of a shock, as they’ve already tried it once before, with a project that fell far short of its goal. This time they’re aiming to produce fewer sticks (at a lower specification), and as such the goal of the crowdfunding is dramatically lower than the previous attempt. The crowdfunding page is available here, with a goal of 4.4 million JPY.

However, there’s only one Virtual On game currently on Playstation 4 with which to use the controller, A Certain Magical Virtual-On. But that won’t be the case for long – alongside the crowdfunding announcement, it’s also been revealed that Cyber Troopers Virtual-On, Virtual On Oratorio Tangram ver 5.66, and Cyber Troopers Virtual On FORCE are all coming to PS4! Presumably, they’ll be compatible with TANITA’s new controller. It’s a real surprise announcement, and very welcome – particularly as FORCE has been stuck on Japanese Xbox 360s as an exclusive for years now.

Cancelled Shenmue 1 & 2 Remakes Revealed by Digital Foundry

Monday, October 15th, 2018

Digital Foundry have managed to get their hands on some work-in-progress footage of a cancelled Shenmue 1 & 2 remake project. Unlike d3t’s Shenmue I & II, this would have been a complete remake of the game with more detailed assets, textures and lighting. Check out the video below to see a comparison of this footage versus Shenmue I & II:

There’s a full article that breaks down what is being shown in the footage and what it does differently to the eventual release of Shenmue I & II. There’s also some speculation as to why these remakes were cancelled in favour of the upscaled HD ports we eventually got. Digital Foundry suggests the remakes were cancelled due to budget restraints and delays.
