Arcade1Up Reveal Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder Cabinet at CES 2020

For the first time since its original 1992 arcade release, Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder is receiving a port. Arcade1Up are releasing a home version of the arcade game complete with 4 player cabinet. Also included in the package are ports of Shinobi, Altered Beast, Wrestle Wars and the original Golden Axe for good measure.

If you’re unfamiliar with Arcade1Up, they produce near full-size, licensed arcade cabinets for the home. They can be bought with extras like risers and stools to make them closer to their full-size counterparts. Due to the size of the units and their robust build quality, they often retail for around £300.

While there is currently no release date for the cabinet, the unit has been shown at the latest Computer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Prototype HDMI SEGA Nomad by Retro-Bit Being Showcased at CES

Retro-Bit have confirmed this prototype does include the additional controller port on the bottom of the unit, but it is just obscured in the photos they uploaded.

ORIGINAL STORY

A surprise announcement from CES! Retro-Bit have revealed a prototype of a new SEGA Nomad with HDMI out.

The original SEGA Nomad was a North American exclusive portable Mega Drive that featured an LCD display, 6 button control setup, an extra controller port and support for composite out video.

There aren’t many details on this new Nomad outside of the news of it across channels such as Rewarded Play including a HDMI out for high definition displays and the 3 images at the top, which also show a PAL/NTSC switch for playing games from multiple regions. We don’t know if the emulation is accurate, the screen is improved or even if another controller port is included at this time.

It is also worth nothing that the new Nomad is a prototype and has likely not been greenlit by SEGA themselves. Retro-Bit are likely showcasing this prototype to gain interest in developing the product at a later date. This is a very interesting development that we hope gets approval from SEGA. It would be fantastic to own a modern portable Mega Drive solution without having to dish out the sort of collector’s prices that an original SEGA Nomad now sells for.

Retro-Bit SEGA Controllers to Launch in November 2018, Dreamcast Controllers Absent from Launch Line-Up

Retro-Bit’s new line of fully licensed SEGA controllers for consoles and PCs have been given a formal release date of November 2018. The controllers will be featured at Gamescom 2018, specifically at Game Outlet Booth #A041 in Hall 04.2 of the Koelnmesse Convention Center from the 21st to the 25th of August 2018. Below is the full list of controllers that Retro-Bit are planning to showcase for launch in November:

Genesis Wired 6-Button Original Port Controller (Black, Clear Blue)
Genesis Wired 8-Button USB® Port Controller (Black, Clear Blue)
Genesis Bluetooth® Controller (Black)
Genesis Bluetooth® Receiver
Megadrive Wired 6-Button Original Port Controller (Black, Clear Blue)
Megadrive Wired 8-Button USB® Port Controller (Black, Clear Blue)
Megadrive Bluetooth® Controller (Black)
Megadrive Bluetooth® Receiver
Saturn Wired Original Port Controller (Black, Slate Grey)
Saturn Wired USB® Port Controller (Black, Slate Grey)

As you can see, the previously announced Dreamcast controllers are no longer listed, even after previously being showcased at CES 2018. Could the Dreamcast controllers be coming later? Retro-Bit’s press release does mention that the controllers listed above are a part of the “first line” of controllers, so it could be the case that the Dreamcast controllers come in the second line.
