Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 Screenshots Roll In, More Details Confirmed

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

We can finally see what Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 will look like! And what a surprising turn of events this is; the game now uses a fully 3D engine instead of using pre-rendered graphics for the foreground tiles and items like the previous game. Check it out:

Eagle-eyed Sonic fans will be intrigued to see Metal Sonic riding the rocket that Tails flies from Sonic the Fighters; nostalgia!

Also confirmed for the game is 2 player offline and online co-op play with Tails. This isn’t your standard Sonic 2 type co-op play either; Sonic and Tails have unique combination skills and attacks that give them a greater advantage than they do alone.

A demo of Binary Domain will be available on the X-Box Live Marketplace and the Sony Entertainment Network on Wednesday the 15th of February.

Full press release below:

“LONDON AND SAN FRANCISCO (13 February, 2012) – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that the demo for the much anticipated third person, squad shooter Binary Domain™ will be released to western markets on February 15th 2012.
Xbox 360® and PlayStation3® players will experience the world of Binary Domain by playing through two of the Rust Crew’s early missions set in near future Tokyo. You’ll take command of Dan Marshall and work together with a squad of teammates from an elite International taskforce who watch and react to your every move. Gamers will have to fight highly intelligent robotic opponents and will also get the chance to try out Binary Domain’s ground breaking Consequence System. This system allows you to interact with and influence teammates in a variety of ways never before seen in a third person shooter, By using voice recognition in combat and non-combat situations players have a more natural dialogue with their allies, one which affects their behaviour and attitude.
Now is your chance to see into a Binary future and begin your journey into the machine age with the demo arriving on both formats from February 15th 2012.
Binary Domain is a pioneering third-person squad shooter from the creators of the Yakuza series. Set in near-future Tokyo where climate change has caused many living in the lower city of Tokyo to live in poverty. With a central branching storyline, voice recognition in combat and conversation and AAA shooter mechanics Binary Domain offers something genuinely unique to the genre.

SEGA Tunes: Project DIVA Arcade Quartet Theme Remix

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Anyone remember the SEGA arcade game Quartet? Allow me to jog your memory:

Now here’s an interesting remix for you all! The main theme from Quartet was remixed and added as a playable song in Project DIVA Arcade. Check out the promotional video below:

Also interesting for Sonic fans is that if you skip the chorus (1:14) you might recognise the melody to It Doesn’t Matter from Sonic Adventure. Seriously! We’re not entirely sure if this is a coincidence or not but it’s certainly worth noting!

Video Spotlight: Is This Video of a Sonic the Hedgehog Prototype Real or a Really Good Hoax?

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Yuji Naka’s Twitter has revealed this rather fantastic video of what appears to be a Sonic the Hedgehog prototype that some of you may recognise from screenshots released in magazines back in 1990:

Now the real question is this; real or fake? Could someone help translate Naka-san’s Tweet to help with this conundrum!?

EDIT: Rough Translation Courtesy of Angelgotchi
“It’s a version of the game that was under construction. Wondering where the ROM came from and wondering if the segment is from after the river with the rocks and palmtrees before it. Nostalgic!”

So Naka-San thinks it’s real! Curiouser and curiouser…
